IN SHORT

From playing rugby for Hong Kong to becoming an international-calibre referee, Gabriel Lee Wing–Yi has repeatedly made rugby history – amongst other things, she was the first woman to officiate a Rugby World Cup final, and she will soon be officiating the 2016 Olympics, which will mark rugby sevens’ debut as an Olympic sport. Her ambition is to encourage more girls to become rugby referees. “Like with everything, you need to just really focus and go for it,” Gabriel says. “If you don’t take chances, you never really live.”
